A fatal car accident that took place in Diamond Bar, California this past Sunday has been capturing national focus, as drunk driving is expected to be the primary cause of a collision that ended with the deaths of six people. According to investigators with the California Highway Patrol, 21-year-old Olivia Culbreath is suspected to have been intoxicated when she entered the westbound 60 Freeway going the wrong way at around 4:50 a.m. Sunday. Traveling at speeds that have been estimated to have been about 100 mph, Culbreath reportedly hit another vehicle head on, causing multiple people to be ejected from the vehicles and four to be pronounced dead at the scene.
Although two individuals involved in the accident were flown by helicopter to nearby hospitals, they ultimately also died as a result of their extensive injuries.
Culbreath, who broke her femur and ruptured her bladder in the accident, has been charged by officers with felony DUI and manslaughter; however, additional criminal charges may be filed against her when investigators receive the results of her blood tests.
Wrongful Death Lawsuits May Be Filed Against Culbreath…
At this time, it is known that Culbreath had a history of reckless driving behavior, as her DMV records show that she was convicted of DUI in 2011 and that, while her license was suspended, she received tickets for two moving violations.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, the families who have lost their loved ones as a result of Culbreath’s negligence and recklessness should know that:
- They likely have a wrongful death case against Culbreath.
- The evidence gathered by investigators in the criminal case can be used to against Culbreath in the civil case.
- By pursing a wrongful death lawsuit, the grieving families may be able to obtain compensation to financially support them during such difficult times.
