A pedestrian crossing the street in Denver was hit by three cars a little after 9pm on Thursday January 10th. While two of the cars stopped at the scene to await the arrival of police, one car fled the scene of the crime, and officers are currently treating the case as a hit-and-run accident. The vehicle currently being sought out by law enforcement officials is a Subaru WRX SUV; although witnesses were not able to give police details about the color of the SUV, authorities did state the the vehicle they are seeking would have the driver’s side mirror missing, as well as other damage to the front end of the car.
Officials have reported that the 20-year-old victim is currently in the hospital seeking treatment for serious injuries. It is unknown at this time if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk when crossing the street; it is also unknown whether the driver of the SUV was drunk driving at the time of the accident, as DUI is among the main causes that people flee the scene of the crime after an accident. Other reasons that the driver of the SUV may have left before police arrived at the scene may be because the driver was driving on a suspended license, was carrying some type of illegal substance in the vehicle with him/her or was driving a stolen vehicle. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information about the SUV to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
In cases such as these, the pedestrian may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit against the drivers of the vehicles who struck him if it can be proven that the drivers had acted negligently or recklessly. Additionally, the victim may have a case against the city itself, if there wasn’t sufficient lighting, signals or signage on the street to make the pedestrian visible to oncoming traffic. Those who have been injured in any type of accident are encouraged to consult with an experienced Denver personal injury lawyer for more information about their legal rights and entitlements.
